Electrical Engineering Career Episode 1

Project Name: DESIGN OF BRIDGELESS POWER FACTOR CORRECTION BOOST CONVERTER

Project Type: Academic Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done during the final year of the author’s bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from “Name of the university”. This project was accomplished successfully by the proper support and guidance of Mr Professor from July 2015 to December 2015, a period of six months.

Engineering Activities of Electrical Engineering:

  1. To gather and organise information related to the project.
  2. To select the necessary hardware components required for the circuit design.
  3. To design the Bridgeless PFC Boost converter.
  4. To design the power control circuit and the control circuit with the use of devices and diodes.
  5. To use the optoisolator technique in the designed circuit.
  6. To design an instrument power supply for supplying the required power to the circuit.
  1. To organise meetings with the supervisor, prepare progress reports and submit the report to the department.

Problem & Solutions:

Some of the major problem that was encountered during the DESIGN OF BRIDGELESS POWER FACTOR CORRECTION BOOST CONVERTER along with their solutions are shown below:-

  1. Problem 1 for Career Episode 1 and its solution

Circuit isolation process

The author used a resistor based current sensing in the circuit for solving the problem. It provided the necessary isolation between the power and the control circuit.

  1. Problem 2 for Career Episode 1 and its solution

Output insufficient to drive the power from MOSFET gates.

The author designed a drive circuit to provide the required signal for switching the MOSFET on or off as per the requirement. Moreover, the author used optoisolator in the driver circuit to prevent the circuit from the shock hazards.

Electrical Engineering Career Episode 2

Project Name: DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS FOR FIVE STOREY FULLY EQUIPPED HOSPITAL

Project Type: Work Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project from the company named ”Name of the company”. The head office of the company is located in “Name of the place”. The author carried out this project as electrical site engineer. This project was accomplished successfully by the proper support and guidance of Mr. from July 2015 to December 2015, a period of six months.

Engineering Activities of Electrical Engineering:

  1. To conduct a document oriented study about project aspects.
  2. Then, prepare the bill of quantities to be used in the project site.
  3. To supervise and review various design drawings.
  4. To perform the related calculations and successively design the lighting system for the hospital.
  5. Afterwards, design the cable tray layout of the project.
  6. To install several electrical equipment such as RMU meter, main circuit breaker etc.
  7. Subsequently, install the grounding system and the lighting protection system
  8. To monitor the work of installation and prepare the related progress reports.

Problem & Solutions:

Some of the major problem that was encountered during the DESIGN AND INSTALLATION OF ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS FOR FIVE STOREY FULLY EQUIPPED HOSPITAL along with their solutions are shown below:-

  1. Problem 1 for Career Episode 2 and its solution

Installation of cable tray

The author first reviewed the overall design. The author consulted the HVAC engineer to find out that path of cable tray was inappropriate according to the HVAC requirements. Keeping that view in mind, the author performed the cable tray load calculations and successively changed the cable tray path.

  1. Problem 2 for Career Episode 2 and its solution

Designing part of lighting in switchgear room

The author went back to the calculation part of the project regarding the lighting system. After reviewing the variables involved in the project, the author decided to calculate and redesign the lighting system using dialux software. The author noted down that after the redesign and calculation, the standardized illumination was achieved.

Electrical Engineering Career Episode 3

Project Name: CONSTRUCTION OF AL-NAKHEEL MADINAH 110kv/13.8kv

Project Type: Work Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done during the author’s work tenure at “Name of the organization”. The site location of the project was at “Name of the place”. This was a group project, and the author was assigned as the QA/QC Engineer for this project. The author worked on this from July 2015 to December 2015, a period of six months.

Engineering Activities of Electrical Engineering:

  1. To acquire the detailed level of understanding related to the theoretical framework of the project and then move towards the survey phase.
  2. To perform necessary calculations for the design.
  3. To design the necessary battery banks, charger and circuit breaker.
