Plant Engineering Career Episode 1

Project Name: PANEL REAR END MODELLING AND OPTIMIZATION

Project Type: Academic Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done by the author as design engineer for the “company name”. The project was located at at Sao Caetano do Sul, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The project was executed under the supervision of “supervisor/ leader name” from April 2013 to October 2013, a period of six months.

Engineering Activities of Plant Engineer:

  1. To conduct the literature review related works on various subjects and elements related to the design of the beverage tray and prepared an outline of the project.
  2. To develop the plans and schedules for operating the project for its eventual completion within specified budget.
  3. To define the cars to be analyzed and evaluate the benchmarking.
  4. To develop the baseline modelling by using the process presented at benchmarking.
  5. To develop, elaborate and apply the mathematical model test.
  6. To analyze the data obtained from the mathematical model test and tabulate the final results of the project.
  7. To organize meetings with the supervisor, prepare progress reports and submit the report to the department.

Problem & Solutions:

  1. Problem 1 for Career Episode 1 and its solution

Determination of the control factor strategy

Author used a standard category line of layer strategy to solve the problem. The UG had tools that facilitated the identification of lines and curves used to create its features making it easy and fast regardless of the layer category.

  1. Problem 2 for Career Episode 1 and its solution

Establishment of the best fit model

Author used the Taguchi’s orthogonal arrays which reduced the number of tests and made the testing procedure easier. It reduced the overall cost of testing. Determined the best fit model for Taguchi’s orthogonal array which was L12 that allowed to use up to 6 variables at 2 levels.

Plant Engineering Career Episode 2

Project Name: USE OF A TELESCOPE IN MODIFICATION OF A TRACTOR

Project Type: Academic Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done as a student of “University name”, Brazil. The project was located at Sao Caetano do Sul, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The project was executed under the supervision of “supervisor name “from April 2013 to October 2013, a period of six months.

Engineering Activities of Plant Engineer:

  1. To perform a case study to understand the scope of agricultural machinery and investigate the present machinery used for transportation and loading.
  2. To prepare a methodology for the design and development of the tractor mounted telescopic boom crane.
  3. To move on towards the selection of materials in addition to preparing the testing guidelines.
  4. To prepare the design calculations considering all the design constraints.
  5. To develop a 3D model of the crane to be subjected to different virtual evaluations.
  6. To investigate different failure cases of the crane under different loading conditions using the Finite Element Analysis.
  7. To perform the structural optimization of the design and then successively assigned the best parameters.
  8. To tabulate the results of the project in the end.
  9. To organize meetings with the supervisor, prepare progress reports and submit the report to the department.

Problem & Solutions:

  1. Problem 1 for Career Episode 2 and its solution

Setting up the boom tower

Author reduced the global maximum equivalent stress values which would subsequently reduce the mass of the boom tower. He also made the changes in the system as per the instructions of the supervisor and reanalyzed the system.

  1. Problem 2 for Career Episode 2 and its solution

Preparing the 2- dimensional manufacturing drawing using CAD for each component

He consulted the machinery enterprise and worked with them in tandem to obtain the related 2D drawings for the design.

Plant Engineering Career Episode 3

Project Name: LEAN MANUFACTURING TO INCREASE PRODUCTION AND REDUCE WASTE IN MEAT PROCESSING COMPANY

Project Type: Academic Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done during author undergraduate study of Plant Engineering at the “University name” situated in Brazil. The project period started from December 2013 and ended at March, 2014. He was the team leader in the project under the guidance of “supervisor name”.

Engineering Activities of Plant Engineer:

  1. To conduct a literature review on lean manufacturing practices by gathering information and knowledge based on it.
  2. To prepare a questionnaire model to identify all the lean manufacturing practices being followed in the companies.
  3. After distributing the questionnaire, process the data from the questionnaire and carry out detailed calculations for further evaluation.
  4. To devise a plan to implement the lean manufacturing systems in the company.
  5. To make additional plans to be implemented for the sustenance of the system placed in the company.
