CDR Sample for Chemical Engineers

Since the economy of Australia is developing exponentially with the dynamite financial blast in Oil and Gas, and mining division, there is a more noteworthy need of Chemical Engineers with relevant global experience. So as to distribute with the basic deficiencies of compound engineering to defeat the postponement in activities, the skilled migration visa are opened for Chemical Engineers by Australian Government. The required capability for entering this occupation is a four year college education or higher, alongside significant involvement now and again.

Chemical Engineer Career Episode 1

Project Name: PROCESS & PLANT DESIGN

Project Type: Academic Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done in “university name”. This project was accomplished successfully by the proper support and guidance of “supervisor name “from August 2015 to November 2015, a period of four months.

Engineering Activities of Chemical Engineers:

  1. To start the project by collecting all the required information of the different processes involved in such plant through detailed study.
  2. The second task in the project was the designing of the commination plant, which was used for reducing the minerals into small fragments.
  3. To prepare the design for separating different minerals from one another by the process of gravity separation.
  4. The next process performed was CIP Cyanidation.
  5. After that, the process of refining was accomplished through the application of different methods in the same refinery.
  6. To analyze the results and prepare the conclusion of the project.

Problem & Solutions:

  1. Problem 1 for Career Episode 1 and its solution

The author faced the major issue in this project was during the process of determining the design criteria for the commination plant. It was determined to be 357 t/h. The capacity of jaw crusher with a preceding grizzly was calculated as 150% of mill throughput. It came out to be 535.5 t/h. This was not ideal. He reduced it by installing grizzly scalper to remove assumed 20% of fines. By doing this, the capacity of jaw crusher was reduced to 430 t/h, and the problem was eliminated using the SysCAD.

  1. Problem 2 for Career Episode 1 and its solution

Another issue which he faced during the project was while designing the CIP of the hydrometallurgical plant. The provided information was not sufficient to complete the designing process. To solve this problem, he performed a typical laboratory experiment. He used standard bottle roll tests for establishing the gold recovery process. These tests were performed on the indicative samples from different vein systems of the deposit. He used the obtained values as optimum parameters for CIP plant design.

Chemical Engineer Career Episode 2

Project Name: REMOVAL OF HEAVY METALS FROM WASTE WATER USING ABSORPTION TECHNIQUE

Project Type: Academic Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done in “University name”. This project was accomplished successfully by the proper support and guidance of “supervisor name “from August 2015 to November 2015, a period of four months.

Engineering Activities of Chemical Engineers:

  1. To collect information on absorption, its types, absorption thermodynamics, adsorbents types, adsorption isotherms, coal fly ash, and other project related topics.
  2. To select reagents for preparing working solutions and purchase them from the selected vendor.
  3. To prepare adsorbent following grab sampling method, coal fly ash modification, cooling and vacuum filtration.
  4. To perform several calculations on weight difference and use ICP for detecting the remaining amount of zinc and copper in the solution.
  5. To collect results from the characterization and prepare graphs depicting them.
  6. To analyze the results, graphs and accordingly come up with the conclusion.
  7. To prepare a progress report, final report and other necessary documents.

Problem & Solutions:

  1. Problem 1 for Career Episode 2 and its solution

While performing the experiments, author required shaker for mixing different solutions. But, the shaker available in the lab was old and already damaged. It didn’t give the correct output in the mixture. Then, he raised the issues in front of the supervisor. He immediately reported this issue to the lab coordinator and requested to make the device available. Considering the timeline of the project, new shaker with more function was available within a week, and he further proceeded towards continuing the experiment using it. The change of equipment ensured accurate results solving the problem eventually.

  1. Problem 2 for Career Episode 2 and its solution

Next problem he faced was in bulk density calculation. The value of bulk density for raw and modified ash wasn’t matching with the theoretical value. In the meeting, he discussed this issue with his supervisor after doing the relevant research about the same. He told him about the different methods that were available for its calculation. After the meetings, he noted down his suggestions and took another sample from which he was able to get appropriate value. Thus the calculation related difficulty was resolved.

Chemical Engineer Career Episode 3

Project Name: DESIGN OF METALLURGICAL GOLD PLANT

Project Type: Work Based Career Episode Project

Demographics: This project was done by author for “company name”. This project was accomplished successfully by the proper support and guidance of “senior/ expert” from August 2015 to November 2015, a period of four months.

Engineering Activities of Chemical Engineers:

  1. To conduct detailed research on different aspects of the project.
  2. To study and select appropriate components required.
  3. To prepare the project flowchart with the description of the operation.
  4. To design the processing plant using AUTOCAD.
  5. To develop the layout of the proposed plant.
  6. To prepare the control strategies for the plant.
  7. To estimate the project cost, follow the safety measures and document the project in a report.

Problem & Solutions:

  1. Problem 1 for Career Episode 3 and its solution

Water drainage from the acacia reactor chamber

The author decided to use a cone for storing the concentrate. This strategy proved helpful as the impurities settled down in the cone. The water drained after that from the acacia reactor chamber had a considerably lesser number of particles.

  1. Problem 2 for Career Episode 3 and its solution

Pipelines blockages which increased the processing time

As per the author applied high-pressure was washed by water and then successive move towards the smelting process. This ensured that the blockages would not stop further processes.
